第一,能否獲得可直接轉化落地的專業收穫;
第二,能否結識關鍵的同行與潛在合作夥伴;

We are pleased to invite you to the 2026 International Conference of the Asia-Pacific Islands Social Work Educators Association (APISWEA), to be held in Macau, China, from June 5 to June 8, 2026. The conference theme, " AI and Innovation: Re-shaping Social Work Practice and Learning," aims to bring together global scholars, educators, and practitioners to explore the transformative impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on social work across the Asia-Pacific region. This conference will provide a diverse, cross-cultural platform for academic exchange, fostering in-depth discussions on social work’s professional development, educational innovation, practice transformation, and research collaboration in the context of rapid advances in artificial intelligence. We especially welcome contributions that focus on the challenges and opportunities facing communities in Asia and the Pacific Islands (API), and that explore how AI and innovation can be integrated in ways that are culturally responsive, ethically grounded, and contextually appropriate. Through cross-cultural and interdisciplinary dialogue, we seek to promote cross-border collaboration, knowledge exchange, and mutual learning, and to advance the renewal and sharing of the social work knowledge base.
About APISWEA
The Asian & Pacific Islander Social Work Educators Association (APISWEA) is an international organization representing social work educators of Asian and Pacific Islander (API) descent in North America. The association’s mission is to engage in dialogue and respond to issues concerning social work education related to the global API communities, while promoting education and research on API populations within the field of social work.
APISWEA regularly organizes academic mentoring and career development events and is responsible for the abstract review and session facilitation of the API Track at the Annual Program Meeting (APM) of the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) in the United States. Each year, APISWEA also awards two doctoral fellowships to encourage emerging scholars whose research focuses on API-related issues. In addition to hosting member gatherings during the CSWE APM, the association also convenes international conferences across the Asia-Pacific region, having successfully held previous events in Vietnam, the Philippines, Thailand, South Korea, Hong Kong, Chengdu, and Indonesia. The 2026 International conference will be held in Macau, China, from June 5 to 8, and will be hosted by the City University of Macau.
— Highlights of Attending the Macau Conference —
For social work scholars and practitioners, traveling to a conference usually comes down to three questions:
1. Will I gain professional takeaways I can translate directly into my work?
2. Will I meet colleagues and potential collaborators who truly matter?
3. Will the trip be worth the investment of time, cost, and energy?
This Macau conference is designed to make your participation worthwhile, learnable, actionable, and transferable, so you can take something back and put it to use.
Core Issues and Boundaries
As AI enters the field of social work, the central challenge is not the tools themselves, but how to balance efficiency and ethics, technology and human-centered practice, innovation and professionalization. With a specific focus on local contexts across Asia and the Pacific Islands, the conference will examine both the applications and limitations of AI in teaching, supervision, service delivery, program evaluation, and research, so you can understand when it is appropriate and where the ethical and regulatory boundaries lie.
Networking and Collaboration
Rather than making scattered visits and constant trips back and forth, the conference offers an efficient way to connect and collaborate in a concentrated timeframe. For researchers, it is an opportunity to find co-authors and cross-university partners. For practitioners, it provides a strong setting to initiate inter-agency collaboration, build supervision and training partnerships, and exchange practice experience.
Making Your Work Visible
The conference also helps increase visibility and expand professional impact by ensuring your research and practice outcomes are seen and heard. Panel presentations, discussions, and workshops all provide a platform to present evidence, methods, and perspectives clearly to an international audience. For early-career scholars and frontline practitioners alike, a well-defined problem, rigorous methods, and reflections can resonate strongly, often opening the door to follow-up collaboration and broader influence.
Recharge and Reflection
Just as importantly, teaching, research, and practice are demanding and fast-paced. With convenient transportation and strong infrastructure, Macau is well suited for a high-intensity conference experience while still allowing time for peer connection and short local excursions, making this trip professionally enriching and genuinely restorative.
Interactive Spaces
We have also planned open and interactive activities, including a networking marketplace and a self-care craft workshop. The marketplace will create a natural setting for meeting organizations and teams, learning about projects and resources, and supporting follow-up connections that can lead to concrete collaboration. We will also prepare a welcome gift, subject to availability, which may include aromatherapy or fragrance products or Macau-themed souvenirs as a gesture of appreciation and care.
Early Submission/Registration Recommended
We encourage you to submit your abstract/application early so your planning can be more flexible and cost-effective, and so you can:
resolve any submission-system or formatting issues in time;
receive the acceptance decision earlier and plan your trip with confidence;
arrange visa/entry endorsement (if applicable) and book flights/ferries/ground transport and accommodation at more favorable rates.
A Brief Guide to Visiting Macau
Macau is compact yet charming, with most major attractions within easy reach. Beyond the iconic Ruins of Saint Paul’s and A-Má Temple, the city is home to a remarkably rich cultural heritage. Conference participants may enjoy a leisurely stroll through the Historic Centre of Macao, wandering along characterful streets and alleyways and taking in the striking blend of traditional Chinese courtyard homes and Portuguese-style architecture. If you’re interested in local history and the arts, Macau also has several small but excellent museums well worth a visit—for example, the Macao Museum, which offers a comprehensive overview of the city’s past; the Maritime Museum, which explores the meeting of Chinese and Western seafaring traditions; and the Macao Museum of Art, known for its diverse and substantial collections. You may also wish to stop by Mandarin’s House and the Taipa Houses Museum, both set in calm surroundings and easy to explore at a relaxed pace. For a quieter side of Macau, consider heading to Coloane for a walk along Hac Sa (Black Sand) Beach and a glimpse of the area’s laid-back, fishing-village feel. In your free time, try a Macau-style Portuguese Custard tart (Po Tat), or drop into a long-established cha chaan teng (local café) to sample everyday Macanese flavors, an enjoyable way to experience the city’s food culture.
Macau’s public transport is convenient, and getting around is generally straightforward in Cantonese, Mandarin, and English. The city is also widely regarded as safe, making travel especially convenient for visiting scholars. In addition, Macau is one of the world’s most concentrated destinations for luxury hotels, and it hosts a steady calendar of major concerts, shows, and performances, making it easy to enjoy high-quality leisure and cultural entertainment alongside the conference.
With more than 400 years of cultural exchange between China and the West, Macau has a distinctive, slower-paced charm that is ideal for exploring between sessions. We will share a more detailed Macau travel and transportation guide in a follow-up post.

Three Common Ways to Get to Macau
Fly directly to Macau and arrive at Macau International Airport (MFM).
Take a ferry from Hong Kong or Shenzhen to Macau. A commonly used arrival terminal is the Taipa Ferry Terminal.
Travel to Zhuhai first, then enter Macau via a border crossing (a common route for travelers from Mainland China). You can fly into Zhuhai Jinwan Airport (ZUH) or take the high-speed rail to Zhuhai Railway Station or Hengqin Railway Station, then walk across the border.
Getting Around Macau (to Your Hotel / the Venue)
Free hotel shuttle buses (often called “casino shuttles”). One of the most convenient ways to travel in Macau is via the free shuttle buses operated by major hotels. From the airport, major border checkpoints, or ferry terminals, you can often take these shuttles directly to hotels. Routes are extensive and run frequently (depending on the hotel). The nearest hotel with shuttle service to City University of Macau is Altira Macau, about 10 minutes away.
Public buses. Macau has a comprehensive and affordable bus network. Fares can be paid by cash or Macau Pass; in many cases, you may also use the Alipay code to pay fares.
Taxis. If you are short on time or your destination is not easily accessible by public transport, taxis is an alternative. Lines may be longer during peak hours, so please allow extra time.
— Invitation for Sponsorship Opportunities —
Sponsorships at the APISWEA International conference offers a unique opportunity for exposure and leadership among individuals, schools, and organizations across API countries. Your sponsorship will play a vital role in covering various expenses related to organizing the conference, speaker fees, promotional materials, and other logistical arrangements. With your generous support, we will create a platform for scholars, researchers, and professionals from around the world to engage in meaningful discussions and knowledge exchange.
As a token of our appreciation, we would like to offer the following benefits:Inclusion of your organization as a sponsor in all conference materials, including the official program, website, banners, posters, and promotional materials.
