(Research & Labs)
(Research Directions)
The Center’s research agenda targets a wide range of key issues in the field of longevity medicine, addressing the physical, psychological, and social dimensions of healthy aging. Our main research directions include:
- Biomedical Mechanisms of Aging: Investigating the biological processes of aging and searching for innovative interventions to delay aging and prevent age-related diseases. For example, we conduct cellular and molecular studies to uncover aging mechanisms, and work on developing anti-aging drugs and therapies. This line of research aims to extend healthy lifespan at its roots.
- Preventive Medicine & Public Health: Focusing on lifestyle and environmental factors that impact longevity, and studying how nutrition, exercise, and preventive care measures can improve population health. We place particular emphasis on chronic disease prevention, maintenance of functional ability in older adults, and optimizing community health management models – all contributing to the goal of “healthy aging.”
- Mental Health & Cognitive Aging: Examining the psychological changes and cognitive shifts that occur with aging, from the perspectives of psychology and neuroscience. Topics include the causes and coping strategies for late-life depression and loneliness, as well as early detection and intervention for cognitive decline and dementia. This direction aims to safeguard the mental well-being and life quality of older individuals.
- Smart Elderly Care & Assistive Technology: Integrating information technology and engineering to develop smart wellness and care solutions for the elderly (the field of Gerontech or “gerontechnology”). Research areas cover wearable health monitoring devices, home safety and smart home systems for seniors, rehabilitation robotics, and digital therapeutics. We leverage technological tools to improve seniors’ self-care capabilities and caregiving efficiency.
- Traditional Medicine & Healthy Longevity: Drawing on the wisdom of traditional medicine (such as Traditional Chinese Medicine) to explore its role in promoting health and longevity. We investigate topics like medicinal foods and herbs, wellness regimens, and the application of TCM’s preventive healthcare principles (“treating before illness”) to find synergies between traditional therapies and modern medicine, thereby enriching the arsenal of longevity medicine.
- Health Policy & Aging Society Studies: Approaching from social science and policy research angles to analyze the challenges that an aging society poses to the economy, healthcare systems, and eldercare services. Research themes include evaluating pension and eldercare policies, developing age-friendly city index systems, and studying business models in the senior care industry, with the aim of providing decision-making references for governments and industry.
Through this multi-pronged research layout, the Center strives to comprehensively cover the major factors influencing healthy human longevity. We encourage interdisciplinary collaboration, building bridges between biological sciences, social sciences, and engineering to yield truly innovative research outcomes. Each research direction is led by experts and supported by dedicated teams, ensuring depth and rigor in our inquiries. Over time, this approach will help establish the Center’s distinctive strengths and leadership in the field of longevity medicine.
