[Abstract]
This special session aims to advance the application of implementation science in social work research. Implementation science provides systematic frameworks and methods to link evidence generation with real-world practice. By focusing on both evaluation and methodological reflection, this session demonstrates how implementation science can enhance the design, assessment, and scaling of social work interventions across diverse contexts.
The session features four presentations that are linked by a shared emphasis on systematically understanding how interventions are implemented and evaluated. The first two address implementation quality in different service contexts, the third applies implementation frameworks to digital literacy programs, and the fourth situates these applications within broader methodological and theoretical perspectives. Together, they illustrate a coherent approach to integrating frameworks, empirical evidence, and methodological reflection in social work research.
Opening this session on implementation science serves three purposes: (1) Urgent need for practical evidence: Social work interventions are increasingly complex, yet evidence often lacks systematic evaluation of implementation processes, limiting generalizability and policy relevance. (2) Bridging research and practice: Translating practice-based evidence into actionable, scalable knowledge is critical to improve outcomes in aging, digital inclusion, and community-based services. (3) Guiding methodological innovation: Implementation science offers structured frameworks to unify empirical evaluation, theoretical reflection, and interdisciplinary learning, supporting applicable social work research.
